Someone told me nitrogen is lighter than air! May I also assume you are doing everything to reduce your personal mass including voiding you bladder and bowels before a race. Also consider shaving your body. Every bit helps! Cheers Jerry:)

Thanks Jerry!  I forgot about the rider.  I could drop twenty pounds a lot cheaper than the RT-1 could.  Grin

'80's style nylon pants, a carbon fiber helmet and weigh all the boots at my local bike shop to get the lightest pair, It's about the total package (rider and bike).  Is oxygenated fuel lighter? Still and aluminum DT-1/RT-1 style tank and a true chromoly swingarm that looked exactly like the stock one would be super cool. LOL

Brad,

The guys in the Northeastern US can be a little radical about rules (Remember that tea that was thrown overboard in the 1700's).  It's a small group that have their fun racing with loose rules, but it will not turn into a VMX pandemic.  If that were the case we would all be racing mid 80's bikes converted to twin-shockers.  Wink

It's a fad bike that was built for fun.  I was on the biggest US organization's Post-74 rules committee and you wouldn't believe the requests we got for rules changes.

there were only four of those frames made, right?  I'll see if I can find two of them.  Grin

Got to use stock frame, swingarm, triples, forks and hubs.

That leaves bolts, rims, spokes, axles, backing plates, brake arms, sprocket, levers, handlebars, pipe, tires, tubes, seat base, fenders and tank as the items that can be lightened. The skid plate, oil pump, oil tank, air-box and steering stabilizer have all been removed.  I'm running a Hooker pipe, Renthal bars, lightweight controls (levers, throttle), plastic fenders and an aluminum sprocket. I'm adding Excel rims and HD spokes, which should drop the wheel weight by 1.25 lbs per wheel. Aluminum, titanium and the drill could reduce weight a little more.

They are a small regional group that isn't into a lot of rules. It's not like 480 green-stripes are going to be multiplying like Tribbles and take over Vintage MX.  I'm no more impressed than I would be with a 1980 CR250 stuffed with a CR450/480 or an '82 CR480 converted to twin shock.  To each his own.

I'm gonna try that Air-Filter trick!

After looking at those pics of the RT-1MX ad CD9 several times over the last few months I couldn't help myself and order Excel rims and HD stainless spokes for the RT-1.  I'm going to add as many aluminum YZ type pieces and maybe a Ti bolt or two.  I'll post photos as soon as I have it finished.  It is a sickness isn't it?

Thanks VMX60!

Firko,

Sorry your scale had to pay the ultimate price.  I haven't weighed my Hooker pipe yet, but it looks a lot lighter than the GYT/MX pipe.  I would think it weighs close to the Torque Eng. pipe.  I weighed my Bassani last night and mine weighs closer to the GYT/MX pipe (more than 2.75Kg).  Do you have a photo of your Bassani for comparison?

How much do the DT-1/RT-1 GYT or DT-1MX/RT-1MX pipes weigh?

 Huh

Geoff,

There are about 6 HL's here in Northern California.  A friend of mine, in Sacramento, has one of your frames and the others I believe are Pro-Fabs.  I have not seen a Framecrafters (Illinois, USA) frame, but they list them as one of their replica frames.  I'm not sure how closely they match the Pro-Fab frames or if they are an early or late design.  Could they have copied one of your frames?

I think what Dennis is trying to say is the bike is not a later Pro-Tec bike or a 78-79 NV and that it is a Pro-Fab kit with Simons and other things purchased from Hallman Racing.  He raced the bike a few times and it was great to watch.  These pics are from an AHRMA event where two HL's were on the line.  Not sure if the other is GMC or Framecrafters???
