S'truth that's clean. Two criticisms though: Why the Amal concentric MkI? Standard was the Bing but the 158 (250 version) came with a Amal MkII concentric. Second, 'guards should be white. Actually the should be alu (they are available) but I'd tolerate white as it was a common swap.

OK AnorakTim, turns out I will be seeing Jeff tomorrow so I'll ask him about the carby and the guards! That said, I don't think he's too serious about getting the details perfect in that respect - I know he has a TY he's done which looks great but it's in a non-standard paint scheme.

If that is the same Jeff I'm thinking of, he will certainly ride that Bultaco and everyone watching will be on edge worrying about it getting scratched

Yep same Jeff Just spoke to him now and he said the carb is what was on it when he got it so he didn't bother changing it, and he went with the red guards to make the bike a little different. Howzat sound Tim?

OK AnorakTim, turns out I will be seeing Jeff tomorrow so I'll ask him about the carby and the guards! The carbies a curious one Graeme. The MKI Amal was a POS (bracing myself for an attack by the Spanish inquisition). It leaked, was prone to wear the main jet (which is why many old 'taco run like sh!t) and it had a bloody tickler. So I wonder why the MK1?

My guess on the Mk1, It was taken off something very early before it was worn out and kept in a box 'till now. Reminds me of a tale from Geoff Ballard about a Bing a bloke gave him when he ordered a Mikuni 'cause he was told the Bing was shit and he 'had ' to put a Mikky on it to make it go. Geoff took one look at it a had a smile- :Dok, sure he says. The Bing was almost brand new.

Damn nice bike that ! i always thought these later sherpa's had colour coded or white plastic guards and the earlier slimline/miller models were alloy could be corrected tho? IMO the only reason some old bully's (or any euro's) run like shit is a lack of maintenance/knowledge or patience
